Toni Lobsenz approaches photography with a playful eye. Consistently attracted to the unusual, the whimsical and the beautiful, she began to photographically record the compelling world around her during extensive global travels for her work as a designer. More recently, the onset of the pandemic became the threshold of her passion for capturing images; hence began her photographic journey.
Toni Lobsenz is always curious and approaches photography with a playful eye. She explores and looks for the unusual, the whimsical, and the beautiful.
A lifetime artist, painter and maker, Toni’s experiences in design have informed her eye for pattern, texture, color, and composition, and she possesses an equal appreciation of the nuanced qualities of grayscale and its myriad shades, tones and contrasts in black and white.
Toni has enjoyed an extensive career as a professional textile designer, working for Pottery Barn and Esprit as a head designer, and as a designer for Restoration Hardware, Coyuchi, Nautica, Paul Smith Menswear, Hanna Andersson, Levi’s, among others. She has taught textile design for Fashion and materiality for Interior Design as an adjunct professor at the Academy of Art University and California College of the Arts (aka CCA), and has lectured in Color Theory and Textile Design for Artspan and at CCA. Additionally, she’s worked as a color consultant for Interior Paints.
Toni creates in a variety of 2D and 3D media, and has shown her work in a number of exhibitions which include the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, in Santa Cruz at the Michelangelo Gallery, and in Laguna Beach, California for an exhibition for The Heartway.
Motivated by her great love of Mid-Century Modern architecture, Toni moved from San Francisco to Marin County eleven years ago, and currently lives in a 1961 Eichler home with her partner of many years. Her current focus is exclusively on photography, her pursuit of which continues to evolve through dedication to the exploration of new ideas and images on a daily basis.
